This hoya comes from the
Philippines and it was published in 1988 as Hoya tsangii. The same person who described
it then said it should be called Hoya DS-70. Later the confusion got
worse... it became just a sp-hoya without any name. Even later it
was discussed that it looked mostly like burtoniae so the most
correct way to call it would be Hoya sp. aff. burtoniae (green
form). Talk about confusion! Which hoya is the true Hoya
tsangii? It's one we knew for some years as Hoya odetteae that is
the true Hoya tsangii. At least, that's sorted out... |

I have decided
to keep this hoya on a page of its own and not include it on the
page for Hoya burtoniae. Some day I hope it gets a name of its own
and then it'll be easier to rename the pages. |

This is definately a hoya that
does well in a hanging pot. It grows rather fast and when grown in sun
the leaves get red and the foliage doesn't look as "plain" any longer.
The pubescent leaves are dark green with darker edges, 2-5.5 cm long and
1.5-3 cm wide. There is also a variegated form of this hoya and the
leaves can vary in green, white, pink and almost a little red when
the leaves are young. Lovely! |

The flowers are quite small, 5
mm and ball shaped. The corolla is dark pink/red and the corona is
yellow with a red center. These flowers produce quite a lot of nectar,
but don't make a mess. They smell like caramel and last about 5 days. |
