When I bought
this hoya as a rooted cutting from Botanova in May 2000 I was ready for
my first big flowering challenge... Within one month it had grown three
new leaves, but then it stopped and didn't put on any new growth until
June 2001. It seems like it grows in spurts every second year and blooms
more the years it doesn't grow - at least mine does! |

My onychoides
flowered for the first time in March 2003, when I had had it for almost
three years. It had nine buds, but only four of them made it to the
"end". I borrowed a digital camera at work, because I felt that a
"regular" camera wouldn't do the flowers justice. They were amazing!
Once it has flowered that first time it doesn't seem to stop. I've had
mostly eight flowers in an umbel, but one time I had twelve. In February
this year there were buds on two peduncles with a total of 18 small
buds... They all bloomed at the same time! This is definately one of my favourite hoyas! |

When I moved
from house to apartment in 2008 onychoides was one of the hoyas I
sold. A fairly large cutting moved to my brother and it seems to
like it there... I took a cutting of it a while ago, but I think the
growth was too young so it didn't make it. In April 2011 I bought a
cutting that I've divided into two and these will hopefully make it
and I look forward to seing these flowers again! |
